Peninsula

What we did today instead of anything to do with the Super Bowl. Namely, go to some places I've never been to before. Hunt for mushrooms, buy some clams, shop at a nursery. Randomly run into Neil Young. Pictured above: Pacifica from Hwy 1.

How odd that I'm on the Bay Bridge on a Sunday. Usually it's still dark or barely light, with a ton more cars on the bridge. Traffic was light all day everywhere we went, making sure to steer clear of Santa Clara.

First stop: Dogpatch. Neighbor Bakehouse. We haven't been there in many months. Clockwise from top left: Pistachio/Blackberry Croissant, Cinnamon Almond Tart, Chocolate Claw, Ginger Pull-Apart. Utterly divine. The pastry equivalent of the best sex ever.

Foliage on side of the road approaching Pacifica.

Crab traps.

Marina at Princeton, CA.

Lunch at Barbara's Fish Trap. Tempura prawns, fish, calamari & scallops with chips, perfectly fried. Tartar sauce tasted like it was made in-house. Best clam chowder I've ever had. Excellent ceviche. Those line cooks really know what they're doing.

View from our table outside Barbara's Fish Trap.

Endless summer, eh? Headed south on Hwy One. One of many outstanding beaches for surfers.

The sea air is so nice.

Half Moon Bay. Downtown.

Tiny hamlet, and here's their community center: a bar, bookstore, live music venue and general store rolled up into one. Great band playing inside. Looked through an edition (paperback) of Tacitus I nearly bought.

No mushrooms here.

Pescadero.

Pescadero's known around here as a place where they grow lots of strawberries, and the gas station doubles as an authentic taqueria.

Crystal Springs Reservoir. Big part of San Francisco's water supply.
