Urban Air Market

Urban Air Market in Uptown neighborhood of Oakland. Robin can tell you the whole story, but the short version is these guys started in SF. Very impressive group of vendors here, and all with fans who showed up. A lot of these folks I've seen around some other fairs, mostly Maker Faire, and also First Fridays Oakland. Very fine expression of DIY.

This band started up as soon as we arrived. As they played the first notes, I could distinctly hear a woman screaming in rage and disgust at them from one of the nearby condos. That first number sounded like Spinal Tap's "Jazz Odyssey."

They had a few food trucks. I've seen this Bacon truck around. Didn't get any because we were still full from the omelet I made before we left the house.

Here's something cool--but then again, you see this sort of thing at Maker Faire. People showing up with Airstreams and other trailers which they use to show off their wares. Brilliantly done here.

Young women dressed up as Old School Stewardesses (Mad Men-inspired, no doubt), hawking Bloody Marys on wheels.

The fenced off section in the middle was originally supposed to be more Mixed Use Development Condos, but that was before derivatives led to the 2008 crash. Also someone was talking about building a hotel there, but that was all talk...

Nice example of Public Art lining the walkways there.
