Pikanhas Brazilian Steak House in Richmond

The next-best thing to having Texas BBQ close by? A South American Steak House. All the meat you can possibly eat, plus, unlike most BBQ places, outstanding sides. These havens of epicurean delight can now be found in many American cities. Here you can see the server slicing us thin slices of Pikanha, Brazilian Sirloin Steak, roasted to a turn under live flame. Without a doubt, this is the best meat they serve here.

I've been to South American steakhouses before. Absolutely love the idea, but I was determined not to go into a full on food coma this time. Which means eating a lot more items from the salad bar. And man do they have good stuff. I particularly like the hearts of palm, minty dolmas, very spicy jalapenos, and other rabbit food.

Succulent pork rib, the skin all crispy. The squash was great too, so were the beets. This place is really affordable for lunch. At one point, Robin got some lasagna. We had a Groupon, but regular prince is so reasonable.

On the left, a couple of bits of Pikanha, on the right, sausage wrapped with bacon.

Some sides they brought to us. Left: Brazilian cheese bread; right: broiled banana brushed with a butter, sugar and cinnamon glaze. Which made for an awesome dessert.

Beef & tomato kabob.

Chicken leg. Crispy skin. Better than it sounds.

They called this "garlic steak" but it was just Brisket stuffed with garlic. Damned good.

Pork loin. Nice herb marinade brushed on.

Garlic brisket.

Probably our third helping of pikanha. At this point I was going under a trance due to all the rich Brazilian food and salsa music.

I was feeling so good at the end I forgot to take a shot of the grilled pineapple.
