Edgerly Island

This morning I spotted Edgerly Island on Google Maps as a possible place where I could photograph the sloughs and the Napa River. Bingo.

Neither Robin nor I had been here. This is another unincorporated area south of Napa.

This is some sort of railroad bridge. Once we crossed the railroad, right about where I got those spectacular slough shots above, we were on Edgerly Island.

I wish I had taken more photos of the houses here, because this definitely was not a planned development, and this has gotta be the least NIMBYiest neighborhood (or one of them) I've seen in the Bay Area. Every house looks like it was built by the owner or by a beer buddy of theirs. Some look boring (like this one), some grandiose, some all-out funky. I'd like to return and photograph every single one.

Wow, is that a vintage car in that driveway?

So here's a couple of facts about this neighborhood. Every house is built with a dock on the Napa River. As you proceed down the road, you're seeing the backsides of the houses, really. Also, most of these houses are 3 story, the rest 2 story, because this is definitely on flood plain, and the road will be totally washed out by climate change pretty soon, despite what the guy with the Ron Paul sign in his front yard says.

Headed back towards Highway 12/121 is this marina, right where Carneros Creek flows into the Napa River. Oh yeah. Carneros. Napa. There are, of course, freakin' vinyards everywhere they can stick one around these parts. Oh yeah, forgot to mention, we drove right by the place where they make Two Buck Chuck, amid those American Canyon warehouses. They call it Bronco Wines. On Bronco Road.

See, there's vinyards stretching all the way across from here (except for some marshy lands and big box store strip malls) to halfway up yon hills.

First of several shots from the bridge where Highway 29 crosses the Napa River. In the middle on the horizon you can see that same Railroad Bridge contraption.

I'm telling you, the current of the Napa was strong today. Not sure why. We haven't had rain lately.
