Pedrick Produce in Dixon, CA

Produce stands have been a thing here for a long time, and I understand some of them have very humble beginnings indeed, like someone selling out of their truck on the side of the road, which is something that goes way, way back before anyone ever heard of Farmer's Markets, way before any of us were born. There were great produce stands close to where I lived in Occidental that started this way, especially Andy's Produce Market. That place has grown a little bit even since I first went there 13 years ago. Also happened to be the first place I ever saw stuff like Goat Milk Ice Cream.

Pedrick Produce Market is on Interstate 80, on the northeast side of Dixon (just look for the Pedrick Road exit). There's other great produce stands out there and nearby (I'll profile another one we love when it opens for the season next week). They've got all kinds of stuff, but especially the best quality seasonal produce.

Robin's checking out the bags of Apricots in this photo, but these are a specific variety, the best I've had, called Blenheims.

Enormous beets, "hog feed" Robin called them.

No frills store. Don't ever fret about the lines here. They move super fast.

They got all sorts of specialty candy here, not something I would buy myself, but as you can see their selection includes No Sugar and Low Sugar.

Nuts, seeds, candy, fruit...Also all sorts of other dried stuff like rice, beans, grains.

These look tempting.

Great salamis here, including lamb salami. Gotta watch my sodium intake though...

Love the fact they have fruit from places a bit further away, like Watsonville, which has its share of great produce stands too.

Fantastic dried fruit selection.

Here's our "bumper haul": Cherries, Strawberries, two bags of Blenheim Apricots, and a bag of dried Pears. Just a tad over $20.
