Keunjib Korean Restaurant at Paddock Bowl in Pacheco, CA

Ojing-A Deopbap: Squid & Vegetables with Rice at Keunjib Korean Restaurant in Pacheco, CA.

Above: the Banchan at Keunjib, the very best I've ever experienced. The flavors and aromas just really popped, probably the ideal combination of the very best ingredients and optimal preparation by chefs with an utter mastery of the cuisine. From lower left, going counter clockwise: Kim Chee, Pickled Yellow Radish, Kale, Potato, Broccoli, Tofu, Pickled Sprouts (?) with Carrots, and Kim Chee Daikon.

Mandu Guk, or Dumpling Soup with Eggs, Rice Cake and Scallions. Deeply rich umami soup.

Squid with chili sauce, my favorite Korean dish, I've probably had this dish at every Korean restaurant I've been to more than once, and this is now my favorite. Most versions are competent, meaning the squid is cooked perfectly, so the real difference is how does the sauce taste? The difference here is so stunning, and I'm guessing they've made everything in-house, including the gochujang (fermented chili pepper paste). Fabulous. Can't wait to return to check out the Bulgogi, Pork Belly, Soondae, Pork Feet, & various stews, soups and noodle dishes.

Oh yeah, and the setting is really interesting, as Keunjib is in one corner of Paddock Bowl in Pacheco, CA, just a bit south of the Benicia/Martinez Bridge.
