El Cerrito One World Festival & Temescal Street Fair

Once again, I spent a July 4th weekend helping Robin sell her wares at these two festivals, Saturday in El Cerrito, today in Oakland. Pictured above is the work of her friend Michael Roman, who has long lived in The Mission, and is originally from the Village.

They had all kinds of bands at the One World Festival.

Here's the booth Robin & Michael shared. You can see some of Robin's artwork in the foreground.

Towards the end of the afternoon, an old friend of Michael's showed up, Reggae singer Sister Carol. Someone offered her some Walnut Cake, & she asked if there was any herb in it. I can't imagine what kind of herb would go well with Walnuts. Maybe Lemon Balm?

After getting Robin's booth set up, we decided on trying out this place. KangNam is Koreans doing Vietnamese cuisine.

Robin tried a Chinese dish, Sha King Beef. She said it was fabulous.

So was my grilled lemongrass pork with shrimp finger and egg over rice. Nice salad too. Much better than my previous favorite version, probably because they're making everything from scratch here. No fake broths using MSG (i.e. stuff like Knorr's).

I wasn't too impressed with the other vendors, most of which is girlie stuff like jewelry. But this was quite a scene. A Paella vendor with a gigantic line. Check out these 3 huge paella pans!
