Haight & Fillmore to Pac Heights then Inner Richmond

Vintage Red Volvo on Fillmore & Haight. I finally managed to talk Robin into going to one of my favorite bars in the Bay Area to hoist a pint or two, The Toronado. With exceptions of local favorites like, natch, Anchor Steam, every time I've been there it seems like the selection (roughly 40-50 microbrews on tap at any one time) has been completely different. Tonight I had an Obsidian Stout Nitro from Deschutes and a Batch 1 Dark Porter. Robin had a Frambois Lambic. Mine were $4 each, Robin's $5. That's a huge bargain in a town that's "very spendy" according to one old buddy. Plus Happy Hour deals.

Roller disco church.

Usually I don't like to shoot people on the street (prefer to let them have what little privacy one can offer) but this guy seemed so compelling. I heard him first, down the block.

Squid appetizer at Spicy Queen. Cumin, chili, garlic. Spot on.

Neither one of us had been to this Szechuan place on Geary before. Here's some killer lamb ribs.

And ramen with pea shoots, with Szechuan peppercorns. Stunningly good. Otherworldly. Eyes rolling into the back of my head. These folks really know how to cook.

The art in the bathrooms, on the other hand. Here's one of several pieces reminiscent of the late Bob Ross.

Pretty sure this is a Thomas Kinkade print.

Three shots from our second visit July 23. Spiced lamb ribs, Bok Choy & Noodle in Szechuan sauce, and Tofu & Fish Fillet in a Szechuan sauce.

Check out this stunning brick house on Anza, a few blocks west of Spicy Queen.
